An open kitchen is a modern option that is considered a given in newly built apartments. It has many advantages but also some disadvantages that you must take into account in order to have a good functional and aesthetic result.
Pros

•Designing an open kitchen unquestionably gives the impression of a larger space and facilitates your movements and movements within it.
•You can functionally "open" it to the living room and take advantage of the visual expansion of your space thus gaining valuable square meters that can be attributed to other spaces
•The open kitchen, being integrated with the living room, allows you to prepare the meal with the company of friends or family members sitting there. It also gives you the opportunity to watch your children more easily or talk to your guests while preparing dinner.
•Finally, it gives you the feeling of originality in the space at the same time with a more friendly and pleasant atmosphere.

Disadvantages

The noise of the dishwasher and the cooking utensils, the dirty utensils that appear on the kitchen counter and the bad smells that spread throughout the house are some of the "weaknesses" of the open kitchen.

Below you will find various smart ways to help you reduce the disadvantages of this option.
Set up activity areas
The open kitchen area should be organized according to your three major activity poles, such as the cooking and preparation area, the cleaning zone and the cooling zone.

Proper design will help you to move easily, avoid unnecessary routes and save your time and energy.

Hide clutter
•In order to hide clutter from guests, delimit the kitchen with medium-height furniture so that there is no visual contact in the sink and workbenches.
•Visually block the space using a fringe curtain to hide the "sensitive spots". In this way, you can easily and inexpensively turn your kitchen from open to closed, giving the feeling of open space, but hiding the clutter.
• Install a glass wall that will provide you with visual isolation without depriving you of light diffusion in other areas.
• Finally, use easy-to-maintain materials (wood and glass for furniture and workbenches - tiles and plastic floor coverings - tiles and acrylic surfaces for your walls). This way you will be able to clean your kitchen more easily and quickly.

Absorber and silent devices
In an open kitchen, it is very important to invest in a high quality hood to be quiet, refresh the air and eliminate odors. He must be able to refresh the air 10 to 12 times per hour and catch an average of 35dB at low speed and 45dB on average at high speed in order to achieve the best level of silent device.

Useful information:
a hood should be as wide as the size of the cooking area and placed 60cm above the electric stove and 70cm above the gas stove. To be effective you will turn it on 5 'before cooking and turn it off 10' after that.

Open kitchen lighting

Both natural and artificial lighting are very important for an open kitchen space. It should have general lighting that does not affect the rooms that communicate with it and at the same time have a special lighting for each area separately (eg in the dining area, in the drawers, above the sink).

Carefully choose lighting fixtures for the right result, both practical and aesthetic.

Prefer spotlights on rails or wire spotlights or a ceiling light that will share the lighting in the space with LED or fluorescent lamps to save energy.

For the lighting under the cupboards, the best suggestion is led strips or halogen lamps , to have homogeneous lighting and to avoid high temperatures. They direct light directly to the desktop, reduce the risk of injury and make it easier to prepare meals.

Finally, one of the most popular ways to illuminate an islet is with hanging lights . Hanging fixtures also work perfectly in folders or bar-type areas that do not have cupboards on top of them. Some classic bell-shaped designs can add color and style.
