Our Story
leroy_merlin_historyIn 1923,  Adolphe Leroy και η Rose Merlin, husband and wife and partners in business, opened a store with American stock. The initial success of the store encouraged them to manufacture and sell furniture at low prices.
In 1966, in Northern France Leroy Merlin opened the first DIY store, with the concept of customer self service. So began the development of Leroy Merlin throughout the country.
In 1979, they signed a participation agreement with the Auchan group, who then purchased the company.
Leroy Merlin developed and gradually opened stores in Spain, Poland, Brazil, Portugal, Russia, Greece, China, Turkey, Italy, Romania, Ukraine and now Cyprus.
Leroy Merlin also works with the Rinascente group which includes the chain stores Bricocenter and companies Obi (France) and Aki (Portugal and Spain).

Leroy Merlin Greece started business in Greece in June 2005. After a thorough study of the needs of the Greek consumer, Leroy Merlin Greece opens its first store in March 2007 in the commercial park of the international airport of Athens.
On October 2008 it opened a second in Thessaloniki, in Florida Park commercial park.
On March 2009 a third store opened in Athens, Piraeus Street, the first two-storey shop followed by a fourth store in Larissa on November 5, 2009.

The development strategy in Greece is based on the knowledge of the habits of customers and adapting the range and organization of the store to their needs. Before opening the store, visits to the homes of customers were conducted to identify the daily routines of residents in order to adjust the range to local needs.

IN LEROY MERLIN OUR STRENGTH COMES FROM BEING CLOSE TO THE CUSTOMER
The expansion strategy of our company is based on thorough research and the maintenance of  high quality. Before any shop opens, we always start with getting to know the habits and needs of the residents in the region. We achieve this by personal visits to the homes of residents in the area. Therefore, all the products in the new store are tailored to the needs of customers in the region.
The opening of a Leroy Merlin store economically benefits the community and neighbouring areas by creating about 100 permanent jobs.  It is also important to note that recruitment is carried out in close cooperation with local institutions and authorities.
Leroy Merlin also develops strong partnerships with local suppliers giving them the opportunity to have access to the international market. 

RESPECT FOR THE PEOPLE AND THE ENVIRONMENT
LEROY MERLIN ENSURES THE QUALITY AND SAFETY OF PRODUCTS

Leroy Merlin ensures that the products available are safe for the customer and also of top quality (having passed rigid quality control). We make it our responsibility to detect and evaluate the risks that have to do with the nature of products (eg electrical, chemical, etc.), their origin (eg example, outside the EU) in order to prevent, control, update and implement corrective action in case of a problematic product.

LEROY MERLIN CONTRIBUTES TO THE PROTECTION OF THE ENVIRONMENT
Just as the quality control department protects the customers it also aims at protecting the environment. We actively recycle the packaging from products (such as electrical and electronic equipment) that are imported. Also in our stores and offices we have special bins for both the collection of old appliances, light bulbs and waste packaging.  Our goal is to increase awareness on the importance of environmental protection.

Our Vision
